Abstract

|
A case of idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome in a 29-year-old male was presented.
Clinical course of the patient and electron microscopic features of the bone marrow
eosinophilic granulocytes were detailed.
Peripheral eosinophils ranged from 45% (8,505/cmm) to 80% (23,680/cmm) of the leuk-
ocytes and had been decreased following prednisolone therapy, The skin and liver
biopses revealed diffused infiltration of mature eosinophils as did the bone marrow
aspriation and biopsy.
Electron microscopic study on the bone marrow eosinophils confirmed the presence of
electron dense crystalloid bodies in the granules. Splinter and fragmented forms of the
crystalloid bodies were occasionally present in the granules.
